Owner, Evil Twin Studios “Making Nightmares Come True”

Todd Schroeder moved to South Pasadena with his family in 2004 and was blown away by the number of trick-or-treaters in the neighborhood on Halloween. He soon realized he was living in the same neighborhood where John Carpenter’s Halloween was filmed, as well as Rob Zombie’s 2007 remake of the film. Todd, who has always had a passion for horror and Halloween, decided to embrace the spirit of the neighborhood by turning his home into an elaborate, free haunted house every October 31.

After a few years, the quality of Todd’s haunted houses became the stuff of local legend. Neighborhood kids, Hollywood set designers, and local radio stations admired Todd’s handiwork. By Halloween 2012, during which Todd hosted more than 2,000 visitors, it became clear that his legend and popularity had outgrown his home.

Todd formed Evil Twin Studios, a haunt production company, with the intention of creating an annual haunted house on a much larger scale. In 2013, Todd teamed up with his neighbor, Scott Peterson, an admirable home haunter, to create a professional haunted house with the proceeds benefiting local charities.

Despite the charitable nature of Evil Twin Studios, its production and publicity could hardly be described as amateur. The company’s 2013 haunted house, the Theatre of Terror, was a huge success bringing together children, families, actors, writers, set designers, artists, and haunt enthusiasts including over 90 scare actors who volunteered their time. The Theatre of Terror received rave reviews online and in the press, ranking as one of LA’s top ten haunts. Television coverage on CBS and KCAL showcased the haunt all across LA and Orange Counties. Thanks to the power of social media, guests from as far away as Reno, San Diego and Santa Monica visited the haunt.

In response to their first-year success, Todd, Scott, and their key creative team (Jennifer Bandich, Mike Brunner, Russell Eaton) will produce a brand new experience for 2014, the Raymond Hill Mortuary Haunted House. This Halloween season, Evil Twin Studios’ will return to South Pasadena’s Fremont Centre Theatre. The building will be transformed back to its original mortuary roots, where the operators of the Raymond Hill Mortuary have a very, shall we say, unique way of dealing with the dead. Proceeds will benefit the South Pasadena Education Foundation.
