Art has been in Jon’s family tree for many generations. At the age of one, he skillfully decorated his family’s house using his Dad’s black Sharpie markers one afternoon. His parents noticed that the scribbles were an attempt at drawing faces. Art School started soon after that incident and by high school he was freelancing professionally for several Kansas City ad agencies and Hallmark Cards Inc., thanks to the encouragement and guidance from his artistic family.

After receiving a BFA in Visual Communication from the University of Kansas in 91, Jon headed to Los Angeles from Kansas City and worked for several years at Stan Winston Studios creating special creature effects for films like Michael Jackson’s Ghosts music video and The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Later creating Neill Art Studios, a developmental studio with a focus on movie props, toys and holiday related products.

Jon specializes in sculpture prototypes and concept illustration for television and feature films, the toy and game industry, themed exhibitions and merchandise. His work can be seen in more than 50 movies, such as Looper as well as television shows, recently Modern Family, The Bridge & Rizzoli & Isles.

If you like the 1:6 scale line of figures that Sideshow Collectibles is producing, Jon also is involved with the development of some of the Star Wars and DC comics figures as well. Most recently Jon sculpted the “Earth one Shane Davis designed Superman character” for DC collectibles.

In October, Jon translates his sculpting skills to pumpkins and gourds, sculpting characters, likenesses and the scariest of monsters for some of Hollywood’s top event planners. He has also been a pumpkin carver on Food Network’s Halloween Wars.
