Kim Cooper is a ghoul who went to school. But when the art history establishment balked at a thesis on the creative impulses of serial killers, Kim turned her academic research chops to more populist projects. In 2005, she launched 1947project, the crime-a-day time travel blog celebrating lost Los Angeles lore. This spawned Esotouric, the offbeat bus adventure company that upends the concept of a group tour with its provocative excursions into the southland’s literary, architectural and true crime histories. With LAVA – The Los Angeles Visionaries Association, Kim curates forensic science seminars led by LASD investigators, benefiting graduate level research at Cal State LA. She has just completed her first novel, a mystery inspired by a real 1920s California cult murder spree.
