Greetings from the grave, scaries! This week marks the start of our “Frightening Flashback” series, where each week we’ll highlight a different flashback that both frightened and delighted at ScareLA 2013. From zombie beauty queens to a sliding show of epic proportions, rest assured that there’s loads of moments to look back on.
Our first frightening flashback is none other than the grand reveal of the “Insidious” maze at the Halloween Horror Nights panel. The HHN panel took place on August 10th, 2013 with a line forming through the entire showroom! HHN showrunners John Murdy and Chris Williams were on-hand for the grand reveal, answering guest questions about the event leading up to the announcement.
Soon, the lights dimmed, and a quiet hush fell on the crowd in the main theater. A short trailer showed a series of clips from the “Insidious” franchise before ending with a shot of the iconic red door familiar to “Insidious” fans. As the title card reading “Insidious: Into the Further” finally showed on-screen, the lights turned an appropriate vibrant red as scaries greeted the announcement with standing cheers and blood-curdling screams.
The Insidious maze at Universal Studios Hollywood proved to be quite a success, attracting some of the largest lines at Halloween Horror Nights 2013.
