Greetings from the grave, scaries. Today is a particularly exciting day for Halloween lovers everywhere, as today marks the month mark until ScareLA! What better way to kick off the last month before Halloween comes early to Los Angeles than with a new installment of our “Halloween Hero” series? Today, we had an exclusive Q&A with none other than Larry Bones.
A monster-makeup magician of sorts, Bones has worked his way to the top of the industry as the official Head of Makeup & Monsters for Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights. His company, Boneyard Effects, has been helping shape the horror make-up industry for almost 20 years now. With that in mind, we present you today’s Halloween Hero: Larry Bones.
Q: What’s your fondest Halloween memory?
A: My first year working Halloween Horror Nights! It was my dream come true! I grew up watching the Universal classics!
Q: What frightens you the most and why?
A: What frightens me? Not what you might expect. It’s deadlines. I’ve woken up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat thinking I forgot something Horror nights! I’m not particularly fond of long dark hallways either…
Q: What’s your biggest source of inspiration for your work?
A: My inspiration comes from many sources, but nature provides so much. Look at some of the creatures we’re finding in the deep sea or in rain forests.
Q: Favorite part of ScareLA 2013?
A: My favorite part of ScareLA was the great turnout for its first year! There were so many people with the same love for Halloween. I can’t wait to see how it grows in the years ahead!
Q: What are you most looking forward to in the 2014 Halloween season?
A: What else?? Halloween Horror Nights!! It’s going to be bigger and badder than ever before!
