Director, "Scary Stories"
Cody Meirick is originally from the Ozarks of Missouri. After a couple degrees in literature, he ended up in Chicago where he has spent nearly 10 years growing a media website for an education nonprofit and teaching himself editing and filmmaking from the ground up. After the first 5 years of that, he decided he could take those skills and put something together that is longer and more in-depth. A documentary. And the subject was something he could go on and on about: children’s literature. For over 3 years he slowly pieced together everything he could into a documentary about one of the most banned books of modern times: Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.
In the 1980s and ’90s a book series developed a growing interest from kids who were taken in by gothic tales, a whimsical tone, and ghostly illustrations.
